Motatapu

Motatapu is an off-road mountain bike and trail run held each March in the high country between Wānaka and Arrowtown, run by Queenstown-based Motatapu Events Ltd.

First staged in 2005 with 1,000 competitors, it now draws over 4,000 participants a year across the Emerson's Mountain Bike (47km), Emerson's E-Mountain Bike, Trail Marathon (42km), UDC Finance Miners Trail Run (15km), Rab Ultra Run (52km) and Jennian Homes Junior Trail Run (4km), with running, biking and walking options. Courses cross the privately owned Motatapu, Soho and Glencoe Stations, which open to the public for this one weekend a year, and a portion of every entry goes to the Queenstown Trails Trust.
